"I can look for one." Kalevala had been translated to a lot of languages. It lost a lot in the translation, though. The whole front rhymed system went right out of the window with the translation and the rhythm and the beat and the soul of the whole thing. It was something you read aloud, like a British eulogy has a melody, so does Finnish poetry.
He grabbed a couple of bottles of water on their way. He didn't trust the tap water in Riga and probably would trust it even less in Warsaw. Purification spell would only make it safe, not taste nice.
"I suppose there's a reason to read some for you," he said casually while dropping a fat tube of lube into the basket and fishing a pack of condoms from the shelf too.
Declan licked his lips as he watched Grey so casually grab what they needed. He was jumping him as soon as they got back to the hotel room. He walked up to Grey and walked his fingers up his chest, "Think you can read to me while I'm blowing you?"
He winked Grey then turned around and walked away. It looked like they had everything they needed so he headed towards the check out. Teasing Grey felt like the best sort of dangerous. How far could he push this man before he snapped? Declan shivered at the idea.
This trip was turning into one of the best he had ever taken.
Grey's gaze was heavy on Declan while he walked those fingers up his chest, watching him quietly. They would have to suffer through some food before they could get back and fuck each other senseless. Grey wasn't really sure if they could manage that. He was seriously considering takeout...
He slapped Declan's ass in a casual sort of way when he turned to walk away, then lifted his brows if Declan would turn to look.
"I think I can recite some from memory," he said, following Declan to the register.
He sucked in a quick breath at the slap to his ass, surprised at Grey's actions. He had to stop underestimating this man's boldness. Even though he was quiet and controlled, there was a lot to him that Declan was learning about as they flirted back and forth.
"I think takeout sounds good," he said, grinning at Grey. He could feel the slight frustration, mixing with desire and it was exactly what he was going for. It was a whole lot of fun riling up Grey. He felt more confident, more bold, with Grey because the response was always positive. Not once had been told to turn it down or stop. It was freeing.
"Maybe we should ask a local for a recommendation?"
some stupid drama and things I'd rather not deal with. So I locked the posts.
Grey was quiet and controlled because he knew he needed to be. With power came responsibility and he wasn't even joking about it. One day he'd tell Declan why. Today wasn't that day.
Today was awfully playful and he was not quite smiling more than he had for so many years he didn't even know when had been the last time. Declan was adorable, all the way to his surprised gasps to those grins and obvious teasing.
He loaded up his loot to the register and stared down the guy who was giving him the stink eye. Yeah, no, not asking this jackass anything.
"What're you in the mood for?" he asked while packing away his purchases into his backpack.
Declan very deliberately put his arm around Grey's waist and leaned into him while they were rung up. The guy didn't like it? Too bad. He wouldn't hide what he was and what his preferences were. Given the world they lived in, this asshole could get all worked up over it and have his night ruined. Declan didn't care.
"You are not a food option, so that'll have to wait," he mused, rubbing his hand over his chin. "I'm open to trying new things but I'm going to say no fish. I've had enough of that for awhile."
That had been their food source for every night they were out. Declan didn't need more.
"No fish," Grey said with an actual curve upon his lips. He had to agree. They had had fish enough for a couple of weeks at least. Fish for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The cashier didn't look up at them again, which was probably good because there wouldn't have been anything polite to say. He also didn't tell them thank you or wished a good day when they left. What a dick.
"How about those burgers?" Grey suggested as they excited the shop and he was flinging his arm around Declan's shoulders again, pulling him towards the exit of the mall. There would be at least a few McDonald's out there.
"I'm all for burgers." Declan leaned against Grey for a moment, smiling. "Very easy to take with us if we don't feel like hanging around."
They could easily grab McDonalds and get going. There were always McDonalds. In his many travels Declan had learned that he could always rely on them for a midnight burger or cheap milkshakes. They kept going, somehow, even in this day and age.
"I feel like this is a good time for a beef cake joke," he teased, poking Grey's fit stomach.
"We could hang around if you like," Grey said and looked at Declan from the corner of his eye. There was something to be said about his patience but he felt like camping out on the hotel room floor with some burgers would be more up to his alley right now.
He paused them outside to quickly ask some people on the street about the closest burger joint. The man guided them around the corner and down the street to a place called Street Burgers. It seemed to be a local joint instead of the usual McDonalds.
Grey snorted as Declan poked his gut. "I guess we'll have to work out later to get rid of all the calories," he murmured with fond amusement as they walked towards the small burger joint in the corner of two streets.
There was something to be said about sitting around in a hotel room with his new lover and burgers. Declan shrugged. "Eh, I don't mind if we head back instead."
Grey didn't like crowds either and even at this hour he imagined there would be some people at the burger joint. He had certainly stayed out past sundown as a teenager more than once, staying in a burger joint or anywhere they would let him hang out with his friends inside.
"You look like you can bench press me so, you know, if you need help I'm around," he winked and slipped ahead to get inside and check out the menu.
There was a cue, only a few people. They'd get to wait for a little bit. Grey flopped both his arms on Declan's shoulders while standing behind him, his nose resting on the beanie while he studied the menu on the wall.
"You forget I've seen you naked. You don't look that out of shape yourself," he said a bit teasingly. "But if you want that, I probably can lift you."
He had an idea just how much Declan weighted from having hauled him around in the morning.
Declan looked over the menu which seemed to be pretty standard for a burger joint. That made ordering easy. He'd get a burger and fries.
"I like yoga," he explained, reaching up to lay his hands on Grey's arms. "And running. Sometimes I do things like push ups, crunches, you know all that. I am a little vain."
He liked to look good and liked to be admired for his looks. Grey certainly seemed to appreciate it a lot.
"Sure, I don't mind if you want to work out with me."
"Yoga," Grey repeated after him but said nothing about it. "Sometimes I do taichi with my best friend," he admitted. "And other shit he gets into." Kai had a thing for beating Grey up when he felt like it. Grey could hever keep up with him, that was just the gist of it. He had the muscle but not the skill.
He said nothing about it but it had been quite obvious that he liked looking at Declan. Who wouldn't?
"Working out with you yields some nice results, I think." This was said casually as Grey was stil scanning the menu and trying to debate with each other about food coma and growling stomach.
"Oh, handsome, wait until you see the things I can do with my body," he said with a little laugh. Declan knew yoga didn't have the best reputation but he could lift and bend his body in some interesting ways. He was strong from it too. Not like Grey but pretty strong.
When they reached the front of the line Declan gave his order and then tilted his head back to glance at Grey. It was his turn. Did he have any idea what he wanted?
No one was really looking at Declan with Grey. Apparently, no one wanted to give Grey the impression they were interested in his boyfriend. It was pretty clear Grey had a claim on Declan.
Snorting, Grey let that drop with more than a full serving of amusement. He was pretty sure he would be eventually very well aware what Declan could do with his body. And he'd be thankful of yoga. He had nothing against those prospects.
He gave his order when it came to his turn. Chips and a burger, he asked for a salad on the side and more than a few spices on top of the fries. But they happily pinned down everything.
Grey honestly didn't think about hanging off of Declan as being possessive over him. It might be what it looked like, though. He just wasn't exactly used to public shows of affection and how to read them.
This was definitely a public display of affection and a little possessive but Declan didn't mind. He liked affection and was free with it, especially since he had kept his bottle up while they were out in the wild. Now he could be as open and flirty as he wanted. It was great.
He paid for his half of the meal because he wanted to be equal with Grey right now. Traveling around could be expensive. It took them a little of time to get their order together but once they had it Declan was ready to go.
"Come on, big guy, I can feel your hunger from here." And he didn't mean his sexual hunger this time.
It was a real thing, hunger. Grey was used to a thin menu when he roughed it out but he hadn't eaten even that since last night. At some point, you stopped feeling hunger, though. He was edging to that place. It was a good thing they tooked the food away from the burger joint because everything was starting to be disgusting to him.
He hummed as they left the burger joint but didn't comment anything beyond that.
Riga was pretty in the night. The city light reflected from the sheen of water on the cobblestone streets, old buildings lined the streets. A breath of that old world that had little to do with this new one.
"So, theatre and books," Grey said as they walked along the street. He wanted to know more about Declan. "Did you always know you prefer men?"
"Uh, yeah, figured it out pretty young and didn't hide it. My parents were really supportive so I felt safe coming out," he said, thinking back to that slightly awkward conversation with them. Declan had been slightly nervous about it but they were totally cool with it. "Sean actually got into a lot of trouble because he beat up a kid who wrote FAG on my locker. Because for some reason that's still a thing."
Declan rolled his eyes. The world was falling apart and people were so concerned about who he wanted to have sex with. It was stupid but America was stupid in a lot of ways. He wasn't really impressed with his country of birth these days.
"It's never bothered me though. I'm happy with who I am and what I want." He winked at Grey. Who wouldn't want this guy? Seriously.
babeh. I was chattering about character zodiac signs yeterday with plurk, do you have any for yours?
"Not a dramatic revelation at some point," Grey said with lingering amusement. "Sean seems like a decent person."
Even if a little rough around the edges from what kind of image Declan was painting.
"There wasn't much of that where I lived. Kai had some rows with his dad. But his dad was a pastor in the local parish. It kind of was part of the deal when he'd fuck boys to make a big deal out of it. I don't know." It hadn't been that big of a deal to anyone. Kai already had horrible relationship with his dad before he became a sodomite. They had all called him by that name for a month because it had just been hilarious how stupid people could be.
Dec is a Leo and Sean a Capricorn based on birthdays
"I had other drama in my life." He was an empath in high school, there was so much drama around so many other things including the whole incident with Sean and insults. That part of his life was over now, though, so he was very happy about that. "He's really protective."
He rubbed his hand against the small of Grey's back. Their hotel was in view, luckily, and soon they could settle down.
"Wow, fuck that guy," he said with real sincerity. Kai's father sounded like a real asshole to Declan which actually sucked. "But those kinds of pastors are everywhere in America. They're super powerful now."
Awfully fitting. C: Kai is a scorpio and Grey is Aquarius.
"Teenage drama, yeah?" Or was there something else? Grey looked at him curiously, not urging him on to tell about it but giving it a shot if Declan wanted to go there.
Grey gave a nod to the receptionist when they slipped into the hotel and then leaned against a wall outside the elevator while they waited for the lift to descend from the upper floors. Had he stayed beside Declan, he would have thrown an arm around him again. And he had done that more than enough by now...
"Right, his dad was a dick." Grey shrugged it off easily. Kai had been more than capable of giving back exactly what was necessary. It was a thing they had talked so much growing up that he was just completely blaze about it all. "They had an ugly relationship. In all aspects, really. My folks were just not interested in which sex the people I liked were." So there hadn't been a lot of support, not that he had needed any.
Which is nice because I didn't actually plan that, lol
He rolled his eyes, "Oh god, was there ever. Never want to go back to that." Teenagers with their wildly out of control emotions and hormones were hell on an empath even as he went through the same things. It was just misery.
There was never enough of Grey's arms around him but he could handle a little distance. Watching Grey was almost as good as touching him. Though, when the elevator doors opened he grabbed the front of Grey's shirt and pulled him onto the elevator.
"Have you always liked men?" he asked, a little curious and a little handsy. He knew that getting back to the hotel room meant a second round after they ate. He was really into Grey.
[ Zodiac is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's silly but lmao, so much fun. ]
Grey gave a soft snort as Declan pulled him into the lift, letting himself be manhandled as much as Declan liked. It was definitely not something he found cumbersome after all. Besides, a clear invitation to put his own hans on Declan as well.
"Me?" he asked, giving it thought actually. "I wasn't much into anyone at first. But yeah, actually I never really had those moments either. It was just kind of obvious to me from the start that I didn't have a preference." Girls or guys, he really didn't care. "Or I didn't have much of a preference when it came to genre. I have always been kind of picky..." Sex was easy but even with that, he was rarely interested if it was the only thing that interested him in someone.
Well, that just made Declan feel special. He had to be for Grey to pay attention to him and want him like he did. His smiled, which had been flirtatious turned softer and gentle. He was really good at doing that to Declan, changing him from horny and ready to pounce to sweet and bashful.
"You are a constant surprise, handsome." He got up on his tiptoes and kissed him gently. The elevator dinged for their floor and he slipped around him and moved to their hotel room.
The room was just as they left it, the bed still a mess from sex and Declan grinned at it. Food first, though, much more important. Grey was probably starving.
He was a surprise? Grey just snorted when Declan kissed him and pulled him close to turn that kiss a little bit deeper one before the lift dinged and the doors opened to an empty hallway.
He followed Declan in and kicked the door close behind them. Dropping away shoppings, he moved the two chairs that stood beside the wall and sat them on both sides of the table before he shrugged off his coat and beanie and bundled his hair up, tying it up with an elastic band.
The burgers had managed to cool down a little but he groaned still with delight when he took a first bite, practically sprawling in his chair, because food...
